The Beauty of a Cozy Newborn
It's bitterly cold here in New Hampshire but that does not keep me from capturing the newness of your little love. There's something so special about a newborn lifestyle shoot. It's not just about capturing those tiny toes and fingers, it's about telling the story of your family in the most authentic and natural way.
Recently I had the joy of photographing this beautiful New Hampshire family of 4 before they begin their journey South for the winter. They welcomed their baby Lily just days after our maternity photoshoot. This session was warm, intimate and full of love.
One of my favorite moments during this shoot was when older brother agreed to hold his baby sister (with Mamas help!) for the first time! It was such a special moment and I was so happy I was able to photograph this moment with their family.
Here are some of my top tips for a perfect newborn lifestyle session:
- Keep it natural/simple. I find that the less distracting your clothing and home are, the better the photos turn out. You do not need to go crazy with cleaning your home, you just had a baby! Clear the clutter off of coffee table in the living room, end tables in the master bedroom and any tables/surfaces in the nursery.
- Let's get the sun in the house! Open up all of the shades and blinds in your home. ALL the way up!
- Dress your family in comfortable and neutral clothing. Being at home means being cozy. Think about different textures and tones while staying in the neutral color scheme.
- Relax and be present. Your connection with your baby and family is what makes these newborn photos so magical.
The newborn stage is so fleeting. I know that when you are in it it seems like the days can drag on forever. But, before you know it, your baby is smiling, sitting up, crawling and walking. A lifestyle session allows you to bottle up this time in your babiest life and revisit it anytime you want.
